Too Much In One Day?

It was Tuesday again yesterday, so my son had double therapy – an hour of speech and an hour of occupational. I’m starting to wonder if it’s too much for him in one day or if it’s just something he needs some time to get used to. This has only been going on a few weeks now, so I’m leaning toward the latter for now.

He did great in speech (which came first) but by the time he got to occupational, he was very much ready to leave and started refusing to participate and ignoring the therapist. Even with alot of redirection, he was just escalating, and ended up having a mini-fit kicking and hitting and scratching the therapist. At that point she ended the session a bit early.

On the flip side, unlike last week, his mood was great for the rest of the day after he was done with therapy. Maybe that is another indicator that this is just an adjustment period.

I think I’ll have to give it a bit more time before I can tell whether or not we need to work on scheduling so that he can handle more than one hour at a time.
